THE ANT

16x16" oil on cradled hardboard
SOLD

Here' Alvin. Obviously he's the ant. Those legs sort of creep me out but he's saved from ickyness, I believe, by his sassy pine cone shaped butt. I'm really taken by his colors as well. Felix the Fly is on his way!

The computer saga continues! I felt like I was living my own season ending cliff hanger the other day whilst watching Jon, the magic mac dude, ply his trade. He tried everything he knew and as each attempt failed to mount the hard drive, my heart sank as I envisioned myself starting all over again from complete scratch. Announcing he would try one more thing, he explained that if that one more thing didn't work, we could take it to the Apple Genius Bar where it would be fixed, for free (still under warranty), however they would most likely have to replace the hard drive and would not rescue my files or he could take it, open it up and rescue my stuff but our warranty would then be null and void. I mean really, ya just can't make this stuff up.

Happily the last attempt worked much to our unfathomable joy and my files were rescued! A happy dance complete with faux tapping happy feet was had by all! After everything copied over to an external, we then bundled the poor thing up and tenderly delivered it to Apple where it now is undergoing diagnostics and possible hard drive replacement. We were not amused when the techie told us he'd never seen a problem like this before. I hate being special.

At least I have my stuff! Thank you computer wiz, magic mac dude Jon! You are a genius!

  1. So, do you realize this all important ant is just about perfect University of Georgia colors:) And, if it can't be a UGA bulldog I think a superbly painted red and black ant will do! This is amazing. Glad you are conquering those Mac issues and I always appreciate your visits and comments to my blog! I gotta get my external hard drive hooked up asap...no excuses now!

  4. I'm so happy to hear your files have been retrieved. What a headache. I hope the hard drive is replaced with something reliable. This is simply inexcusable!

I do love the painting, dear Girl. It's so winsome. You must have a way with bugs to get them to pose for you.

  5. Fabulous as usual, along with your bee! I think Alvin's relatives are the ones that are eating my house, hmmm. I haven't been so kind as to paint the kin folk here, they are going to have a different fate! I will say that is the only way I want to see an ant here, is in a painting!!! And Alvin is incredibly life like!! I think I'm looking forward to seeing Felix!

  6. I'm not a fan of ants generally, which I think is mostly a function of the fact that they come in groups of hundreds. A solitary ant is really very appealing. Glad you recovered your files.

  7. Well that is great news Suzanne! It would have been awfull to have lost everything! Now I do hope you will back up everything from now on, lol! To be honest I am the last person to talk because I hardly ever back up! Hmm... now where is my USB stick???
Wow - The ant is AWESOME! Yes, 'Awesome Ant' would be a better name! It's amazing how you have managed to make his body look translucent in the light (as they are), that is what makes this fellow look so real! I'm not a fan of ants myself, but there is something quite charming about this chap! I'm looking forward to your fly!
I would love to try a bug myself! In fact, I might do in the next few weeks :0)

  8. Ick, Suz. I hate bugs. They are my nemesis!! Still, no one paints them as beautifully as you do. Nevertheless, he can keep his pine cone shaped butt, thankyouverymuch! LOL

  9. Alvin is pretty amazing! His colors are fabulous, I agree he is a tad creepy--please don't ever paint a cock roach (not sure there is anything that can save them). So glad that there is a silver lining to your computer problems. We had the same thing happen to us, our hard drive was crashing and it was a race against time to see what we could save, it was all very dramatic! I'd like to say I'm better at backing up now, but I'm not.

  11. Wow, fabulous that you got your files back, what a worry! Back up, back up, back up should be the mantra of all artists, but you know we'll still not do it well enough don't you?

Alvin's colour is very ant like. Not a favorite bug of mine (as if I have any favourite bugs icky) but I agree, he does have a certain appeal and they are such unique insects. Perhaps I've been watching too many reruns of 'Ants' with my grand daughter! :)

  13. The Bugs are back! YEA! Love both the Ant and the Bee. Incredible work on the ant's "Gastor"! (had to look it up).

Lost files?!?!?!!? Thank goodness you saved them. The thought is chilling. Off to buy some flash drives for backup!

  14. Incredible Suzanne, I really love your bugs. It must be fascinating to paint something so small on such a large scale. You have certainly given me an appreciation anyway;)
