FINALLY!

Catherine (detail)  18x24" oil on canvas
SOLD

Finally! I know I said that already. This is the commission that Tim brought home for a co-worker for me to do maybe as long as a year before he left us. Thank you Helena for being so kind, patient and understanding and giving me as much time as I needed to complete this.

I had done a pastel painting of Catherine's sister eons ago and their father wanted a portrait of Catherine as well. The other portrait, painted on 18x24" pastel paper was difficult to match on canvas and in oil. I painted the canvas black and then sort of matched the Canson paper the other portrait is painted on. When doing portraits in pastel, I often left the paper as background, an effect I really liked.

I did the first portrait so long ago that this little girl is all grown up, married and just produced a little girl of her own. Celestial speed up indeed!

  6. Beautiful story, beautiful painting, beautiful Suze. :) SO happy to see you painting again. This is a truly sensitive and beautiful portrait. S often big grins end up horrifying when painted, except when master artists paint them. Which you are my friend. She is sweet and beautiful. Wonderful work.

  10. Hello Suz!... Another WOWZER! You capture the innocence... the dancing spirit and freshness of this wee flower!

You as well answer another question: "Where have all the flowers gone..."

Your answer is perfect. All beautiful flowers bloom and then pass on their seed... to create more flowers... keeping alive eternal Hope... that Creation is not a dead end!

N'est-ce pas vrai? J'espere que ca!

    Good Painting!

  18. wait. You emulated the Canson paper .....in paint?? Did I read that right? (I think I did...I read it three times). You did an outstanding job on the entire portrait...but I am totally impressed with your "matching" the look of the pastel. That is so cool. She is very cute...and I agree with the others, I don't understand how you painted that big smile and made it look so great. Soooooo great!

  19. This is just wonderful! I love how you captured that ever so fleeting childhood innocence in her face. The look that screams of long, happy summer days, slumber parties, ice cream and so much more! So sweet and carefree and beautiful. It's perfect, Suz, just perfect! And it makes me really ache to want to try my hand at painting portraits too. So inspiring!
