DEIRDRE WORKING 2

18x24" oil on canvas
SOLD

This is the other version of yesterday's commission. Lesson learned. Ask the client. Gee Suz...ya think? I was sure this would be the preferred version, but the location of the reference photo has sentimental value so the background was significant to him. No worries though, happily they liked this version enough to give it a home. Himself was rather smitten though, so he's a tad sad to see it go. If I'm honest, I am as well.

Enjoy the weekend, stay safe.

  3. Dear BUSY painter Suz! Great, great portraiture, and congrats on the sale of both paintings! Each one fascinates with a unique perspective. This one is my personal favorite, but I also love the unusual 'landscape yet portrait' quality of the first one.

  5. I like both of these for different reasons. The first gives a unique composition for portraiture. So rarely do we see real life as a backdrop for a portrait. I see the appeal in this.

The second more intimate view is wonderful too, and perhaps more traditional. I can understand why you'd think the client would want to see more portrait/less background.

Getting into the mind of the buyer is a challenge. Its fabulous that they bought both and they're equally stunning pieces. Lucky buyer!

  12. I thought you had cropped it! Of course both are incredible, but if I HAD to choose, I would also have to pick the first, just because I like the idea of the painting not being about only the person, but also little about their surroundings, what they're doing... I suppose that way it says more about them. What a fantastic painting though. I am really not at all surprised that they wanted both :0)

  13. beautifully protrayed: it captures the essence of the photographer at work in a composition that has the feel of the profession it depicts!

  14. They are both fabulous, but I would have to say that the one today appeals to me more for the details of this lovely Deidre. So glad that both paintings are "home."

  15. Though both of these paintings are wonderful Suzanne, this is my favorite because the crop adds such power to the subject behind the lens. It has a very strong narrative, bravo!

  16. Suzanne I love both of these. So beautifully painted! I am drawn to the painting with more of the background, I love your textures and it seems to tell a story, you wonder where she is, and what she's doing there. You've done some amazing work with the red jacket, you got the perfect texture and color which can be difficult in red, at least for me. It's terrific that they wanted both paintings!

  17. Well, these two paintings seal the deal... YOU ROCK!!! Get a load of that leather jacket! Fantastic, Suz. Really. Not only did they want both, but I bet they'll be back again with another project for you.

  20. HI there Suzanne!... Wonderful colours and textures as always... faithfully and accurately rendered!

Love that "in your face" involvement you have created with your low frontal perspective! You've really captured an intimate and active portrait!

    Good Painting!
