LIP SERVICE 1 in progress

18x36" oil on linen
work in progress

I've been wanting to try painting close ups of body parts on large canvases. This is the beginnings of my first stab at this, starting with the lips/nose series which is tentatively entitled a rather obvious "Lip Service." We'll see.

While cropping and position are important, the goal is to get this to a very realistic stage while still maintaining a painterly quality.  I'm beginning to think this would be a lot more fun if I actually knew what I was doing.

You TOTALLY know what you're doing! It looks awesome. SO realistic and yes it does have that great painterly quality. I completely love it. What's the next body part?;)

  2. Wow you sure picked a challenge for yourself! Teeth are notoriously difficult to paint. You nailed the subject, though.

  16. Hi there Suzanne!... "You" always like to sink yer teeth into BIG ideas... and this one sure follows that path!

Sometimes it is necesssary to feel uncomfortable and to create untested waters... to break new ground!

I like "cheekiness" of the title... HA HA!!...the painterliness of the work... and add to that the near abstractness of the subject in form at least!

Going to be a very interesting "body" of work to look at! I look forward to seeing more Suzanne!

    Good Painting!
    Warmest regards,
    Bruce

  17. What a unique idea! Well, so far it looks as though you most definitely know what you are doing. The teeth look incredibley real already - I assume those are finished? And the lips look soft and moist too. Completely brilliant masterpiece on the way, I can feel it!

  19. If you don't think you know what you're doing we're all in trouble. This piece is fabulous and I'm trying to wrap my head around the scale of this. You should photograph your painting hanging in a little vignette to give us a sense of the grandness of this painting. Love your new idea and can't wait to see more works come about!

  20. I just started a few body part paintings myself, but yours BLOWS ME AWAY! Where you cropped it is so funny! The scale of it! The almost finished parts are amazing, can't wait to see it finished!
