BLUE FLY

SOLD

Having made a commitment to do the ladybug installation, which was due today, I found myself tired of painting them so I took a break and did this critter instead. I think the ladybug concept is a good one, but I think it best to do them sporadically and not all at once. Sixteen of them! Not cool. I want to keep a freshness about them so they'll be done when they're done. I always think giving myself a tight deadline will make me get things done and it just gives me something else to beat myself up with. Chillax Suz, it's not a race.

So this guy, with that vibrant turquoise on his bum, was great fun to do. What's that old saying... a different bug a day might keep boredom at bay? No? Oh well.

    Hi there Suzanne!... Now you're talkin!. We too often build our own artistic prisons... and in so doing chain our selves to the chair at the easel! A creative spirit cannot be bridled or forced can it?

    After a while... the big "R" word floods into process- Resentment!

    Done when you're done? That sounds like a plan!And in so doing... you'll carry a better song in your heart:

    "Fly" me to the moon... and let me play amongst the stars..." Know that tune Suz? HA HA!!! Enjoy your Self! A great fly!

    I agree Suzanne! Sometimes it's good to take a break! And this is so brilliant! Speaking of his blue bum, in the summer over here we get the most amazingly vibrant metalic blue/green Dragon-Flies. They are often really big too! Have you ever thought of painting one of those? I bet you'd really enjoy it :0)

    Amazing, you make the common fly look like a masterpiece!
    I know what you mean about variety, it gets monotonous painting the same subject over and over. You are doing the right thing by switching to other things and it's sold too!

    Love him, Gunkie! He has a certain fly-ish sauciness to him!!! I think you are gaining control of the "insects painted in oil" market!!! :) And doing a damn good job of it!

    I can so identify with your thoughts here on deadlines. They can be good motivators for me too but not if they're impossible. Having time to step back and give the painting the right care, even setting it aside awhile, often works well for me. However, spontaneous paintings are sometimes surprisingly successful, too, so I think it just depends. It's great when you can do both (and you do!).

    I love this painting, BTW: another wonderful study!

    Everyone needs a fly in their oinment every now and again... especially one with a glow in his bum! 16 ladybugs, oh my! You may need a few more fly breaks in your future... at least, I hope so!

    That is an awesome bug. :) I love that jolt of turquoise on his bottom! And I love what Angela said about your bugs not wanting to make me grab the swatter! So true.

    And oh my heck I am the exact same way about deadlines!! And yet, I still make them, hoping that THIS time will be different. Isn't that what they say crazy is? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results??
