BENNY

8x8" oil on cradled hardboard $85

SOLD

Ok, I'll admit it, I'm hooked on the smooth surface of the hardboard. Benny's made an appearance here before but I thought he deserved an encore, a smoother sailing encore shall we say. Why Benny? Haven't a clue. He's just got that Benny vibe and since he wasn't very forthcoming with information about himself, I thought I'd respect his choice to remain aloof. Wouldn't want to make him angry.

It's Friday! Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by.

  1. OK, you should stop taking macro photos of animals and say they are paintings! Just kidding! This is absolutely phenomenal! I don't know how you do it, your art is amazing!

  4. This guy looks so inviting, even though I know he is not cuddly. You painted another fun one, Suzanne.

  6. Benny and a smooth hardboard equals a winning painting Suzanne!

  7. Another winner, even a pesky wasp looks great when painted by your brush!

  8. I know why Benny. 'Cause he's got his jets ready to go. Uh oh, now I'm singing Elton John in my head... Benny, Benny, Benny, Benny and the jets... Great job, Suz, as always!

  11. Hi there Suzanne!... Benny packs quite a visual wallop here... in his yellow (dinner) jacket!

He's definitely an "upper"... if he's left to his own curious devices and tastings as a (usually unwanted) autumn dinner guest... BUT... a definite "downer"... when he uses venomous anger to demonstrate his displeasure!

Better keep the "Bennydril" on hand!

A great study Suzanne! Couldn't resist playing back!

    Good Painting!
    Warmest regards,
    Bruce

  12. Good Morning, Gunkie!!

Benny is a MOST handsome and striking wasp [yellowjacket?] Don't disturb him, but leave him a note from me, telling him what a good model he made for such a beauty of a painting.

  13. Benny hardly scares me at all. Love working on smooth board myself. Love painting on any smooth surface for that matter.

  14. He certainly scares me!!! He is so good and so realistic that he has brought me out in a sweat, lol! I've never tried hard board yet. My favorite surface so far is canvas covered board, but I do intend to experiment in the future :0)

  15. I agree with Don...Benny and the Jets is all over this little guy. Clearly he's ready for take off! Absolutely fabulous, Suzanne!!

  16. Yep, I thought Benny and the Jets as soon as I saw this too! Benny is lovely (for a wasp). I love the vivid colours, so intense.

    Super insect paintings!

  17. Yeah, your'e insects are great... you could definitely do those for National Geographic or some similar project if you wanted to.
    Crisp against the white.
Tough to have a favorite, I love the yellow jackets and the ant.

  18. ... and the catapillars,... the grasshopper (had one in my house for a week once, it would appear then hide, finally caught it and set it free... ♪♬ Born free... as free as the grass grows... )

and ... hold on... the beetle, yeah, the beetle.

  19. That blue and purple are so right for this yellow insect...they are so unwelcome here, but you have given it such regal-ness. I want to know how you keep thebrest of your surface so white??

  20. Benny is just amazing as are all your insect friends. They are such a clear new viewpoint and the technique is tight without being uptight...I don't know how you do it!

  21. I think I know some of Bennys family and friends. Yep. don't upset him. Great job.

  22. Benny, like all his close relatives, has a very, very short fuse. That said how could the guy get angry with you! You made him positively debonair... well, as debonair as a slightly hairy little wasp can be.
You did a super job with the yellow by the way.

  23. I love Benny! You are absolutely the "Queen" of the bees, Suzanne! Well done

  26. Suzanne, I think it was a critter that looked like this that made my throat constrict after it bit me. I should hate this painting, but it's fabulous.

  27. I never thought I'd say this but he's beautiful :) Perhaps the name comes from the song, Bennie and the Jetzzzzzzzz?

  28. He is certainly deserving of center stage. Wonderful work.

  29. You know, he DOES look a little shy - I agree, let's leave him to it. But he is so beautifully painted - don't you just LOVE gessobord???
