REFLECTIONS TWO

"Reflections Two"
8x8" oil on canvas

Muddy. Sloppy. Unfinished. And that's just fine. I'm still stuck in the doldrums and that's fine as well. I'm really not sweatin' this new, seemingly entrenched aversion to painting...this too shall pass.

What you're looking at is truly the work of an artist exposed. Naked. In an effort to help me simplify, Sandra suggested I finish my next painting in one day. I agreed, however I found I was far too uncomfortable to remain in the studio more than an hour at a time, so the painting above was "completed," and I use the word loosely, in two hours over two days which took literally five days!

And this could just be an extended version of the dreads, who knows? Whatever. I'll keep trying. I just hit me that I've never woken up on a Monday morning with the fitness resolve of a supermodel, so not surprisingly, deciding I'd complete a painting a week hasn't stuck either. And that's fine.

I'll get there. Thanks for your patience and for dropping by.

  1. Good job Suz,,,, we love it,!!
You know how to do what your doing,,, so keep hanging on,, and maybe a perfect wind will come along,, and let you glide a little. You make magic everytime you pick up your paint brush

  2. We have one more thing to tell you Suz,,,
We want to tell you how honored we are to have you "egg painting".
It hangs on a wall.. foe the whole world to see when they come visit. And everyone notices, and goes straight to your magnificent painting.. People say,,, "now there is an artist"!
Of course we already knew your real,,, and loving things you do touch people,, like the masterpiece portrait of Tweedles ,,,, We thank you over and over and over,, and we just want to tell you again,, and say we thank you forever.

  3. Suz, I think this is fabulous, 5 days or not. I like it a lot. Somehow I think two negatives make a positive so I'd sure like to spend a couple of days with ya'...wine...and whine...and making fun of ourselves. Painting. Then home again so I can relish the renewed spirit within. I think we'd ultimately spend lots of minutes laughing. Always good medicine.

  5. Hi Suzanne, I don't know you but I follow your blog and read your posts...what gift you have for painting so beautifully...I only dream to paint as well as you do. I am not as gifted as a painter as you, still need lots of practice! I just wish you well and hope you can get back what's hard for you right now. Love, Kim

  6. Well having read the comments above I've no need to say anything, other than clearly you see very differently from all of us! You WILL come out of those dreads... Might take a while but it'll happen :0)

  7. It's a beautiful painting, I love it! Be good to yourself and be patient with yourself. We artists go through stages and phases and many are not easy to make it through. I believe that they all contribute to our ultimate journey and creativity.

  8. Muddy, sloppy and unfinished? Get a grip girl!!! It's looser and more casual than you're usual work but it's great nonetheless. Love it!!

  9. ---but really.....you don't like this?? We do! I like everything about it. I do understand about stepping away from painting ...someone (Manet?) said something like not painting is also a good time, because it is a time of gestation. Or something like that. If you are thinking about painting...that is as good as painting. (Manet knew about all this). :)
