REFLECTIONS ONE

"Reflections One"
SOLD

This is my second offering for The Naked Artists blog I share with friend and fellow artist Sandra Busby. It's a detail shot because I didn't finish in time. No whining allowed is the rule for the blog Sandra and I came up with to further our growth as creatives, however I can whine all I want here.

I don't know what it is, I just don't want to paint. Each day I go into the studio hoping that little spark will ignite my desire to work but...nuthin. I'm fine with it. There's nothing I have to do or prove to myself or anyone. Whatever the reason for this version of the "dreads" I'm just going to power through.

This is what the 8x8" canvas looks like now. The chairs in the dining room are lovely to sit on but a pain in the patootie to paint. They're made of woven straw I think. I decided it's fine not to finish and to reveal what's not done. That's the point right, warts and all!
Choosing less complicated compositions might help!

At least I'm working.Thank you so much for dropping by.

  1. Amazing reflections on the wooden table Susanne!! Wonderful work!
We all have those times of not having the desire to paint.... I know I go through it... all norm!
    Again, LOVE this painting!!!!

  2. I love the reflections too. And a little prayer that you'll have the spark lit beneath you soon as I for one cannot imagine you not painting!

  3. if only you could see your work the way others do! You have an amazing gift! And I don't think there is an Artist in the world that doesn't drift over to that dark place sometimes. It is something I hear so many Artists talking about... The trick is not to give in to it... But maybe if your not feeling it, like you say, keep it simple for a while, maybe just paint a single item even! Sometimes when I'm in the funk, I give my studio a good sort out. Sometimes it's enough to pull me back in... Anyway, you painted! And it's gorgeous!! :0)

  4. You do have an amazing gift. With time, that desire to paint will re -surface...and you will paint to please yourself, and we will all continue to cheer you on, as your work is incredible. (Even the work you don't want to do, is incredible!)

  5. This is just absolutely stunning, Suz. Truly beautiful and I love the lilies on the table and the gorgeous reflective surface. The weaving on the chair thus far looks amazing!

  6. Hi Suz/Gunkie,
This really is such a striking work ... warts and all. I agree - those chair backs look like a stinker to paint. The colors and composition and the reflections are superbly done. Now ... go and beat up that dreaded mohotchkiss!!! :)

  7. Always wonderful Suz. You are too hard on yourself. The spark will return. Don't worry.
I think of you often and hope your heart is healing. Hugs, Madison

  8. I'm very taken with interiors lately and this one appeals a lot.

Funny sometimes how the harder we try the less we want to do something. Let it happen. Inspiration strikes at odd times and takes many forms.

I also know as artists we beat ourselves up regularly. Why is that? Do we not feel confident enough or is it that exposure of the inner core when presenting a painting? Either way, we all do it and my vow for this year is to stop apologizing about work, process, photos of work etc. Full steam ahead!

  9. I mean this in only the best way, but it's sure a relief to read that EVEN YOU and many of my sister artists experience this ugly 'funk' time at some point. I've had it before but this time seems to be lasting longer than before. Don't know why, but maybe I'll try the 'sorting' of my studio in hopes of getting the kick in the tush that I need. This is not a fun place to be, so I was thrilled to see your latest painting 'Reflections One'. It is absolutely fabulous. You are the Queen of Reflections to be sure!! Thanks for the emotional boost!!!!

  13. Thank goodness for that .... I was beginning to think you weren't human. Actually, on second thoughts, if this is what you do when you don't feel like it, then maybe you're not human. Fabulous work as always and no, you have nothing to prove. ;-)
