SHAZAM

8x8"  oil on cradled hardboard $85 plus shipping

Meet Shazam! She's an artist and obviously very shy. The minute I asked her to pose she immediately turned and ran, which explains this rather, shall we say, unflattering view.

Shazam lives in the artist's colony, right behind the hot tub but not too far from the fire pit, with her husband Tom and two pet fire-flies, Sparky and Ralph. She loves being an artist and has recently, at the urging of the members of the colony, decided to embrace her ability and enjoy her work.

A collective sigh of relief was heard coming from behind the hot tub.

We'll see!

We'll see!

  1. Shazam is so beautiful, and lives behind the hot tub with her family? Oh gosh!
Does she know how beautiful she is? I wonder if she knows?

  2. I get such a kick out of your posts, dear Suzanne. This, and others, would be really fun children's stories. Of course, the adults would enjoy them too and would be the one's buying them!

  3. Shazam is beautiful, coming or going! But I saw a thumbnail of Shooter and I have to say that is one beautiful Field Spaniel!

  5. Perfect! Shazzam is so simple and beautiful. And I love the "bio"!!! Do you do that imagining of their lives a lot? I ask, only because I do it, too. I told someone about it once, and they thought it was a bit strange, but we're allowed - we're ARTISTS!!!
    Love this post, Gunkie!!!

  6. Amazing that Shazzam can be so unaware of her beauty. (It shows even from behind.)
And those quirky little legs! Looks as though she was really ready to make her get-away.

  7. Shazam... her right leg looks a s graceful as a ballerina! She's so beautiful and the fact that she is shy is endearing... Tom and the pets are lucky to have her... and the colony is right to encourage her.

  9. Are you sure that's not 'Suzanne' and not 'Shazam'???
Hehehe... I do love your stories - I also love writing them about my bears. In fact I only finished Big Ted's yesterday :0)
Suzanne - oops, sorry - I mean Shazam is GORGEOUS!!! How you manage to give a bug such personality from only it's rear end is beyond me! :0)

  10. That ladybug baby got back!! ;))

Seriously though I think this is Shazam's best view, look at that shine on her shell (??). You paint these bugs not only with great skill, but also personality and life. I love them. And this is coming from one who doesn't like bugs.

You're just awesome Suzanne, did you know that? Really mean that. :)

  13. Good snowy morning to you Suzanne!... SHAZAM!... and righteously... ripely "Red" - PURRRRRRfect for Valentine's Day!

Your colourful commentary creates as much enjoyment and mirth as your paintings. Some of us choose to live in Neverland forever... and refuse to be "growed up!"

Your story-telling is marvellosly entertaining... could you be "The" Suzanne Berry... illustrator for Hallmark's speaking book..."The First Christmas Story"????

    I wonder! HA HA!!

    Good Painting!

Warmest regards to "You" (and Shazam)... behind the hot tub! We're waiting.....
