THE BOYS 1 A Study

16x20" oil on canvas

Not sure this works, the drips in the back are a tad distracting. Maybe it's done, maybe it's not. I'll see. I don't want to fill it in but I'm not sure it works half finished. Hmmm.

Anyway, thanks for dropping by and enjoy the weekend...again.

  1. Really wonderful! Gorgeous portraits of the boys. I have been playing with some drips too- fun and like the interest it gives!

  2. I like the drips and The boys are looking good too! Very rich in tecture and depth!

  3. Not too distracting. It would be tough to distract from those faces.

  4. Oh my gosh,,, this is fantastic! Love it ,, love it. The portrait is perfectly perfect!
Those boys,,, what beautiful models they are!
    You captured their spirit! Awsome!

  5. These dogs are great! So expressive! I saw your self portrait on another website and loved it. Nice work!

  6. Hi there Suzanne!... Another nice "caught moment"... the lads seem in conversation! Wonder what they're thinking?

    "Looks like rain Blu!"...

Dripping is often a great strategy to compliment an otherwise tightly painted subject... as long as it doesn't overpower the main idea... or seem contrived!

There is NEVER anything contrived in your work Suzanne. Just follow your heart... as I know that you will... that's what separates "You" ... from the "ordinary"!!.... He(ART)!!... Silly Bear! HA HA!!!

    Good Painting!
    Warmest regards,

  7. Look at those gorgeous Puggly boys! Beautiful work, Suz!

  8. Love all your pug paintings, and I love your bees!! I think this looks finished!

  9. The boys are beautiful and I really like the drips.

  10. Suz, I love this!!! It is fantastic and you can't help but love those little faces. I think the background is great, I love that you've kept it in the same tones of the overall painting.

  11. These guys are so sweet, and look for all the world like wise little fellows. I love their expression, you paint them so well.

As for the drips, I like them. Its rather like they're sitting in front of a window that has condensation on it. The final choice is yours and only you know where the last brush strokes live.

  12. I love it, dripps and all. The boys are adorable and you have done a great job capturing their personalities. Even though I don't know them, I feel as though I do. Well done.

    All the best to you,

  13. I think it is just beautiful! They are adorable!
The drips may possibly have been a little distracting had they have been in a different colour or a stronger tone, but you have kept them muted and understated, so they just add interest. It is a gorgeous portrait! :0)

  14. I love these boys!!! The drips just adds to the beauty of this painting!

  15. Hi Suzanne,

I say this is fini!!! Beautiful boys, love there expressions and the drips work. Well done.
